" I continue to return to the human form as an inspiration. I still create figurative works under my real name 'Lisa Lindqvist'.

I love to add text to some of my pieces, and enjoy inventing stories for some of the creations. I'm working on the final stage of a project at the moment called The Field... It's a kind of parallel world set in an ordinary field in England. I've constructed around twenty boxes, each containing taxidermy animals in their own unique environments, which I have embedded into a virtual field. They have individual life stories and their characters are based on people I know and themes from popular culture and history. "

I studied Sculpture at Wimbledon School of Art and ten years later completed a two year post graduate course at the Frink School of Figurative Sculpture. I was always searching for structured and traditional training, in order to have a solid foundation to move away from, and I continue to return to the human form as an inspiration. I still create figurative works under my real name 'Lisa Lindqvist'. In the time in between my studies, I worked as a costume propmaker and scenic artist for theatre, film and Television. This period continues to influence my work as an artist and I often find myself imagining my boxed worlds as miniature theatre sets.

I work in a broad range of materials: Clay, plaster, wood, found objects, taxidermy, collage, text, paint, resin, wire. I like to experiment and surprise myself, though increasingly I find myself wanting to actually 'make' all the elements and construct less. I find a real joy in making and I would never want to lose that aspect. I often find something or read something and that serves as a starting point for my work. I then sculpt, paint, photograph, draw, model different forms until I feel that the piece reaches its natural end. Much of my work involves cutting into objects and creating imaginary interior worlds. I like to transform the ordinary into something visually challenging and possibly a little magical.

Last Year I was also selected to build a room at the Icehotel in Lapland, Sweden. I approached this artwork as if it were one of my more intimate boxes, but on a different scale. I love the transient quality of working with snow and ice and though it is very different to my boxed artworks, I found that I sculpted miniature versions using the same imagery in the months that followed. All the various routes and rivers I follow overlap in the end.
