I was born in Dorchester 1985 and graduated with a Degree in 3D design from Manchester Metropolitan University.

My watchwords are simplicity, function, beauty, longevity, sustainability, creating, designing and making with respect to the environment and the user. I take care to use techniques passed down through generations to make and create for new generations. I strive to understand timber as a living material and work with the grain to design and make for the future, hand selecting individual pieces of timber for each job. I design and make with British hardwoods and sustainably sourced materials. Using locally sourced timber from the surrounding area where possible. All timber wastage is used to heat the workshop, using the offcuts of the larger pieces of furniture for the smaller products. It is a holistic practice, from selecting and felling standing trees, through the process, from tree to piece.

In ten years time I’d like my business to thrive at a national and international level. I want to collaborate with other makers and share their knowledge and understanding of materials. My mode of working will reflect my influences, support others to learn diverse skills, and support me to be curious, proud and ambitious. Both myself and my partner have a career within design and making, it will be good to create projects together as a partnership, forging the way forward collaborative.

I combine traditional techniques with modern design and making knowledge. I learnt to make under two very skilled joiners, father and son at Baker Joinery in Dorchester. This allowed me to understand the living timber and how to work with it. Using my design degree knowledge and the skills of the joiners I have continued to learn to be creative and design and make furniture and interiors on a commission basis for seven years. We cannot ignore new ways of making, and I only wish to embrace them. As a hands on designer and maker I am fascinated by process, whether it is the traditional tool or the latest CNC machines. Good design comes from depth of knowledge in the specific medium and the directing it to a contemporary audience.

My work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally and I have worked to commission both here, in New York and Munich.
